Stockmar Wax Blocks

Stockmar is the German manufacturer of these wax block crayons which contain pure beeswax. I came to learn about the joys of using these wax blocks for arts and crafts purposes when my children were attending a Steiner school. Stockmar designed these crayons to appeal to a child’s senses and to help with the engagement of specific educational principles and particular artistic ideas. These blocks have many uses and have much sensory and aesthetic appeal to people of all ages. Strangely as it seems the availability in the UK has not that wide ranging but are now available at Amazon. The performance of these blocks is far superior to the standard wax crayon. They appeal not only to a child’s liking of touching, feeling and grasping but toddlers like to use the tactile qualities of the crayons to collect up and to build with. I have used these crayons in many community arts projects that I have led; in particular I …

Command™ Brand Strips

Command™ is a trademark of 3M. The Command™ ranges consist of picture hanging hooks, clips and fasteners for the home, for the office, and for the hanging of specific product/display items. The Command™ website has pages of ideas for uses around the home, and also provides tidying solutions, as well as decorating tips for events and festivals. http://solutions.3m.co.uk/wps/portal/3M/en_GB/EUCommand/Command/?WT.mc_id=www.commandstrips.co.uk The concept is that the Command™ adhesive strips, included in every pack, takes away the need for nails, screws and tacks. The Utility Hook reportedly holds up to 2kg (5lb) and is suitable for hanging things like towels, lightweight bags/backpacks, and dressing gowns. The Picture clips can be used for hanging: office schedules, posters, calendars and pictures without frames, they work similar to double-sided tape.   The Mini Hooks, which show a capacity of 225 g should hold a couple of small keys or something of a similar weight. And, as decoration often needs changing, and when celebrations have come to an end, the Command™ adhesive strips are designed to be removed cleanly, leaving no marks. Yet …

Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix from Katie Bakes

In these jars you will find all that is needed to bake a batch of Double Chocolate Chip Cookies. Extra requirements: a small quantity of melted butter and an egg. All that is involved in the preparation is the beating of the ingredients together, then the dropping of spoonfuls of the mix onto a baking sheet and baking. Voila! Full instructions are printed inside the rustic label attached, together with a full list of the quality ingredients used; these ingredients are perfectly measured and produce cookies that are soft, but not too soft. The chocolate flavour (from the Belgian chocolate), produces a deeply rich tasting chocolate cookie, yet is perfectly sweet. I like the idea of the little jars because they can be reused. The jars are shiny, and chunky and are useful to store and display many things. The marvel of this product is, in the first instance, the absolute simplicity of the cookie making, and secondly the thoughtful gift it makes. A jar of cookie mix would make a nice surprise hidden away …
