Best Western GB- The Brook Hotel, Norwich
– 2 Barnard Rd., Bowthorpe, Norwich, Norfolk, NR5 9JB. UK … is privately owned and operated, as are all of the hotels which make up the Best Western portfolio. It is a 3-star hotel for business and leisure with conference facilities and function rooms. The refurbishing, of this modern hotel on two levels, has taken place over recent years with the Best Western branding happening in late June 2013. This hotel is located on the outskirts of the city of Norwich.
Location: is 1 mile from those exits off the A47 Norwich southern bypass to and from Swaffham, signposted (Norfolk Showground/City Centre) and so, when entering the outskirts of Norwich from this direction, the hotel is situated on the right hand side of the roundabout where the city suburbs of Costessey and Bowthorpe meet. As a point of reference The Brook Hotel is approximately 4 miles west of the City Centre, just off the Dereham Road. Both the outer and inner ring roads are a relatively short drive away, so Norwich International Airport to the North of the city’s centre, and the train station (known as Thorpe Station) to the East, is accessible, as are all major Norwich businesses and attractions. 9/10
Hotel Condition: The hotel stretches long over a large area, with ample parking to the front and looks welcoming, well lit, and to a high standard on approach. The reception area is modern, whereas the restaurant is more traditional in its layout and style, both are situated on the ground floor, as is the Brook Bar. The decor in the stairway and the long corridor is dark and rich in colour with some opulent furnishings, the flooring feels plush underfoot. 9/10
Details of room, Cleanliness and Condition: Good. Our twin bedded, air conditioned, room was spacious with a view over an attractive central courtyard, with a design that is not too manicured and with plants nicely established. En suite with bath/shower, toilet and basin – well maintained. Some evidence that the room had simply undergone a revamp rather than a renovation recently, nevertheless the bedding and the towels particularly were fresh, bright and clean we thought this to be a a real plus point. 8/10
Restaurant Service: Note: We can only comment on the breakfast service and this is self-service in the main. Waiting staff on duty were inattentive at times. Food choices consisted of: Traditional English breakfast items, cereals; fruit; yoghurts and toast/with jams and other spreads. No continental selection. The toasting machine was not performing its only function. The cooked food, although well prepared, could have been a degree or two hotter. The dining experience overall – disappointing. 7/10
Reception staff: Good customer service. Our lasting perception is that any queries and clarifications (should we have had any) would have been addressed. 8/10
