What you should know about the Swan Brand, Swan Products Ltd TSS Business of the Month for July 2015

A Birmingham business called Bulpitt and Sons, who carried out the manufacture of copper kettles and lamps in the early days and went on to become a limited company, registered the trademark Swan Brand in the 1920s Stumbling across industrial heritage and people stories in the form of online forums, newspaper articles and photographic images associated with this one time major employer has revealed an interesting social history.  Memories are conveyed online of the factory’s presence in Northwood Street, and later, Camden Street, in Birmingham UK, of the innovative goods they were producing, and neighbouring manufacturers (makers of bikes and jewellery for example) are often talked about and discussed. Collective stories of  these streets and those who worked and lived in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, some dating back from the turn of the last century right up to the regeneration of the area in recent years, are representational of the bigger picture The company’s timeline, in fact, runs from the late nineteenth century through the 1930s (when Swan was the first to develop an electric heating element …

Three from the ArtDeco Celebration Make-Up Collection

for the lips: Magic Fix (£9.10) – A top coat for locking your lipstick firmly in place. Boxed and packaged in a tiny opaque glass bottle, with a screw top, with a small wand brush which remains suspended in the clear solution until all is used up. The liquid has a strong scent which falls somewhere between having a chemical and a natural, sweet fragrance. The brushing is very fine and tickles slightly when applying, the lips tingle and a slight stinging sensation can occur momentarily.  Dries almost immediately.  Having applied the Magic Fix there is no taste evident on the lips, and the lipstick becomes waterproof and smudge-proof and stays put for a fair while even after eating/drinking. Ingredients include Bergamot and Lavender oil to give calming effects and should not be the cause of any excessive drying of the tender skin of the lips  8/10     for nails: Ultra Quick Dry Top Coat (£7.35) – use in a well ventilated room – Application is smooth, with no mess, and dries quickly. The packaging …

Ella Henderson Batiste collaboration

‘As a regular and long term user of Batiste Dry Shampoo, I was thrilled to receive the new ‘Sweet and Seductive’ fragrance in collaboration with Ella Henderson, the face of the new ‘Ready For It’ campaign. As much as I love Batiste, I was not expecting to like this as much as I did, however the fragrance certainly lives up to its name and I personally think it is my favourite out of the collection. I am trying to get out of the habit of washing my hair everyday and after spraying on my hair before bed, the next day I received numerous compliments about how nice my hair was smelling and how good it looked. I found it gave my hair a lot of volume and without any chase of grease, allowing me to skip washing it for two days. ‘Sweet and Seductive’ was also a hit with my daughter and step-daughters who are big Ella Henderson fans. We will definitely be stocking up – well done Batiste!’ A product review by Guest Blogger Amy …

Femfresh Pocket Wipes – Festival Themed packs

A short, but concise review of Limited Edition FEMFRESH pocket wipes   I was a first time user of the Femfresh wipes but I’ll definitely be purchasing them again. The pack is a handy size and the floral design meant that they looked just like a pack of pocket tissues when I popped them in my bag. My daughter has been using wipes to freshen up since she started her periods a few months back and promptly took a pack for her school bag to take to summer camp. They are perfect for the summer heat and although I am highly sensitive to anything on my skin after using I was left feeling refreshed without any irritation. Consider me converted!  By Guest Blogger Amy W from Wales. Femfresh pocket wipes – Festival  addition are available now at Boots, Superdrug, supermarkets and chemists nationwide. All products are dermatologically and gynaecologically tested
