The Valspar company provides coatings, paints, (and various combinations of intermediate products) to a wide variety of customers. The brand is American, headquartered in Minneapolis, MN.
Valspar has been manufacturing and trading for over 200 years, established in Boston, MA in 1806 the business now has a presence in 100 countries and employs around 10,000 people. While Valspar is the sixth largest coatings’ company in the world, it is a relatively new retailer to trade and consumer in the UK. Valspar was launched exclusively in B&Q stores this February (2015)
There is a whole world of science behind the formulas that Valspar have developed, or taken up and where their involvement has never stretched to supplying anything to do with aeronautics, maritime or transport, they have applied similar performance and protection related principles when manufacturing specialty coatings for the building and construction industry, and in the production of factory applied coatings for a variety of industrial customers. The customer base however, is largely the Food, Cosmetic, Automotive and Creative industries:
Coatings for rigid packaging, particularly food and beverage cans
Matt, soft-feel and other special effect coatings for plastic and glass containers for the cosmetic industry
Automotive refinish and specialty coatings
Garage Floor Paint
UV varnishes, water based varnishes and laminating adhesives for the Graphic Arts market
Model paints for the Hobby Enthusiast
Resins and colourants
The DIY market is where a consumer is going to come in contact with Valspar more knowingly. Valspar in the UK, at B&Q stores, offers a full range range of finishes including interior formulas (wall and ceiling emulsion paints and primer together) which are water based (matt, mid-sheen and silk), all of which are said to be premium. Premium paints are 100% acrylic so are highly durable. In our own TSS trials we have found the paint to be low odour, but it is imperative that you give the paint (in its packaging) a real good and long mixing before use every time
The tinting machines situated in B&Q Stores are able to tint paint formulas that are suitable for any painting surface. Visit your local B&Q store there you will see that Valspar offers the largest colour choice in Europe. The colour guide has 2,000 colours to choose from (and colour chips to take home) and the machines are able to colour match millions of colours exactly using a scanner device. Take along a non-reflective colour sample i.e. a cushion, or a carpet sample, any object really that will scan easily
We previewed Valspar this time last year before the brand officially launched at B&Q in the UK. Recently we have had opportunity to receive expert advice about the brand. We report the paint mixing service at the Valspar desk, B&Q, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, was very thorough and professionally conducted, and we received a run down of the company background and other information which was expertly conveyed by the lady adviser during the selection process and while our paint was being mixed in the machine. Since then, we have formally tested a Valspar emulsion paint product on the walls and ceiling as part of a bathroom revamp project. Our overall impression of Valspar has been very positive and this is why we award the Valspar Company Business of the Month for November 2015. Congratulations!
We present below a video clip of the Valspar business which sums up much of what we have profiled
