Holiday Inn Ipswich UK – Hotel Review

Holiday Inn, Ipswich – London Road, Ipswich, IP2 0UA
…is a 3-star hotel in a Suburban setting, geared for leisure so ideal for hosting a private function(s) with a choice of venue rooms and a range of catering options available, also with onsite leisure club and fitness facilities. Overnight package deals for party guests and children and families are particularly well catered for. This hotel also offers a competitively priced wedding package. 8 rooms are available for hire which are suitable for holding conferences/meetings.

Location: Situated on the west side of Ipswich just off the A14/A12 off the Copdock Roundabout close to the Hadleigh Road, and just a short drive from the Railway Station, Portman Road and the Town Centre 9/10

Hotel Condition: A looping trail of an entrance with the hotel sitting fairly central in well groomed grassy areas with trees planted here and there, so the approach is quite impressive. The main parking area is at the front of a large reception building. Internally: Reception and dining areas seen through the open plan are agreeable on the eye and very welcoming. Generally the corridor spaces and furnishings are in good condition. It was evident that the carpeting and stairs are being regularly vacuumed. Some evidence around of small maintenance jobs not being done and an improved maintenance routine (both cleaning and fixing) would definitely go some way to improving the ladies changing room experience within the leisure club, as surroundings can only be described as ‘tired’. We can report that the pool itself and the sauna and steam room are better maintained than some of the areas which serves them. Pool is heated to a warm temp so is pleasant, even when you take that first dip. The restaurant/bar area is mix of traditional and modern in decoration, seating and tables are arranged so that the setting for patrons is private and relaxing and the lighting is soft and mellow 8/10

Details of room, Cleanliness and Condition: Fair. Space in the en-suite of our twin-bed standard was very cramped Note: it is impossible to avoid brushing your legs against the toilet pan when closing the door from the inside. The whole wash room received not much more than’a lick and a promise’ it seemed, with dried water marks across the vanity top, dust film on anything low level, so perhaps a deep clean is due; that little bit of extra sparkle and shine definitely lacking. One ‘clean’ bath towel in its folded presentation in the en-suite, was, in fact, soiled. However, plus points are that the walk-in shower is roomy, light and bright and the shower function high performing. The sleeping and living area was absolutely fine in all respects, but windows to the outside a little smeary. Sheets and Pillows presentable 7/10

Restaurant Service: Good Note: We are only commenting on the breakfast self-service. Things got a little lost in translation with the female greeter which resulted in a short, stilted exchange of words, which was rather awkward, nonetheless, this staff member went about her hot beverage serving duties and table clearing efficiently. It is always difficult self serving food with strangers waiting in line and watching, but then, when you take to your seat, the need is to talk in low tones across the table as the atmosphere in the breakfast area is a little strained. Yet food wise pretty much faultless: Traditional English cooked breakfast, cereals; fruit; yoghurts and toast/with jams and other spreads and the alternative Continental style breakfast items you would expect. The cooked food was excellent, meat products were of good quality and hash browns were golden and crispy. Other cooked food included grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, eggs scrambled or fried and black pudding 8/10

Front of House Staff:
I have mention our crossed wired communication with the morning greeter in the dining room already, and on arrival at the hotel the day before, we struggled a little with Paula’s speedy delivery and her strong Western European accent so we missed a point about our payment which resulted in slight confusion with another staff member the following day when checking out. The young lady at pool side reception was very welcoming and the two bar persons we met on Friday evening in the lounge were friendly too. However, when the same barmen took our food order we were told we would have to wait an hour because the kitchen was busy with a large function. My partner said that was not really acceptable and so this resulted in a some double checking with the chef. All was well in the end and our bar meals arrived within 20 minutes and were quite perfect! However we thought it a little unprofessional that the pressure being felt from behind the scenes was being conveyed to us, as we were somewhat removed it’s fair to say, and so not really that interested in hearing the same explanation being repeated 7/10
