Guide to Roman Blind making

Choosing the Made to Measure services of department stores, specialist makers and web retailers to make and supply your window dressings can be really expensive. Friends recently requested a shop buying quote for two sets of curtains, lined, with eyelets designed to fit a couple of average sized windows in their home and were quoted over 2000 GBP. By shopping around, and choosing a lower priced fabric per mete-rage they were able to order to specification at a cost of 800 GBP. But still, a costly outlay. We can see why, there is no quick way round the process, and to do it all properly is really a labour of love. If you have an understanding of stitching work, and a sewing machine and some sewing essentials to hand, and a few free hours over a couple days to work at the making, then you can save a lot of money. This week we made two Roman Blinds showcased in the photography using Laura Ashley fabrics. The fabric was recently selling at a 50% discount, …

10 Reasons why Puji Furniture gets the TSS Business of the Month award for June 2015

1. Because any ethically minded shopper with an eye for design will relate to owner, Jimmy Ioannou’s designer-head and to his dream (that came a reality) of manufacturing and selling exclusive and distinctive home decor ranges using eco-friendly materials 2. And because the business sources beautiful looking rustic and weathered wood, that has been reputably reclaimed and recovered in Indonesia, and then reused to make new furniture items for Puji 3. Let’s take a few  moment to appreciate the preciousness of  reclaimed teak material 5. And while we acknowledge that Jimmy is very hands-on, we like it even more that he places such high value on the crafting skills of his employees working in Java 6. Because we are able to seek out unique pieces, for ourselves, by visiting the professionally styled showroom in North London which does its very best to showcase wood products and much, much more in furnishings …

TSS Business of the Month for January 2015 is Clayre & Eef (wholesale business)

Ahead of the UK’s big wholesale gift and home interior trade event of the season the Spring Fair International, we are profiling one of its many exhibitors Clayre & Eef – a manufacturer and wholesaler of home decoration products, based within the Leudal municipal, south eastern Netherlands. If ever there were a company that was a real family affair this is it. Two Dutch brothers took over the business bearing the family name ‘Van Cleef’ from their parents in 1994; back then it was just textile producing. The Van Cleef brothers, along with other relatives, friends and acquaintances worked to grow the wholesaling business into its present capacity of supplying, to trade, a whole range of home decorating items, fashion accessories, fancy goods and more. In 2005, the constriction of the two first names of the mens’ children (pictured right) was changed to the current corporate and brand name ‘Clayre & Eef’. How nice for the children – now grown up! In the main office in Haelen, the Clayre & Eef artwork is hand-drawn and …
