Review of MCM Comic Con Midlands 2016

  Sharing snippets of feedback about this annual, one day event. Midlands Comic Con as with the remaining four MCM Expo shows namely Birmingham, London, Scotland and Manchester, is all about popular culture from Movies & TV showcasing and promoting to Manga and Cosplay. Venue: International Centre, Telford, Shropshire. Imagining, mainly due to the location and venue capacity, that this is the most pared back version of the five, so it fell a little short on the ‘must see’ happenings compared to the buzz and interest of shows elsewhere. It was well attended nonetheless, and, judging by the elaborate Cosplay seen, Anime and Star Wars are the main themes that people really came to experience and personally integrate with. These are consumer shows and are not geared for commercial buyers, and so exhibitor’s stands are allowed the majority of the floor space. Usually for retailers/dealers of clothing, posters, books and charms inspired by games, Japanese animation and general all round geekiness the selling happens online, so this is a real selling opportunity for them.
